"Gradually, we have become less obsessed with correctness and more focused on tolerance and personal expression." - Are Digital Media Changing Language?
Response:
I think that it’s great that we are more interested in what
people are saying than how they say it. I myself do not use slang when I text,
but am not the type to nit-pick. The way I see it, as long as you understand
what they are trying to say, it shouldn't matter how they say it. Students have
other ways to get their point across including drawings, text-isms, and many
others. I have had teachers that wrote symbols on the board to take the place
of words then turn around and put down the use of text-isms in informal journal
entries.
I can see why people want to keep the language as close to
what it is now as possible, but our language is so hard to use. The spellings
of our words are so different from the pronunciation that many people don’t know
how to spell most of our words.
