In my high school, it was mandatory that we researched a job that was in our Career Cluster. our junior year, we all had to write a research paper on this job and give a small presentation giving more information about it. Most people learned a lot about the job that they intended to pursue. Our senior year, we worked with people in that career and create a product.
I first chose to write about rocketry because I wanted to work for NASA. I learned a lot about rocketry, but it wasn't until I interned at the IV&V Facility in Fairmont that i learned that it wasn't for me. I wanted to be a math teacher, so I tried to incorporate rocketry into a math lesson (which really wasn't hard). I made a rocket launcher out of PVC piping and a pop bottle and had the students make paper rockets to launch. I learned how to make a lesson plan and got a better understanding of what it takes to be a teacher.
